Last week I spent some time improving my basic spam filter for comp.os.minix RSS feed because some spam messages were not being filtered. Since this RSS feed is being used by at least ten people, I think I should care.
One of those spam messages linked to this page: http://www.awsurveys.com/. I felt a bit curious about what kind of fraud they were doing.
The design of the web page was more than terrible. Who in world will give out his/her personal data in a web site like that?
But I kept with my private investigations and visited “Create a Free Account” page. Did you know what I found? A captcha!!! These spammers were using a captcha, that’s pretty fun, isn’t it?
I wondered how those captchas were being generated. I refreshed a few times and look at the image URLs:

Is it me or these are WordArt generated captchas?
Yes, they were 18 gif files chosen at random order.
I know some people can argue that this works against automated registering, but… THIS SUCKS! If someone targets at you: you’re dead! There are zillions of free captcha services out there. Why create your bad designed captcha instead? These spammers are totally stupid.

Let me make a guess – a colour-blind?? ;)
@Loreal, Good point!
