Code Complete 2nd Edition Cover
I just finished reading Code Complete a few minutes ago. I started reading this book in October last year after realizing that there was a huge number of sites/blogs referring to this book such as Coding Horror or Joel on Software forums.
Yet I remembered when I read first chapter: it really got me. As I told in a previous post, I didn’t buy this book until I knew I had to. Instead, my friends at DotNetClub lent me a copy. It only took a few chapters to do my mind. This book deserved a slot in my Computer Science bookshelf.
Code Completed is a aided travel through the world of software construction. Although the book is not intended to be read from cover to cover, I did it. The book is split in 35 chapters which took a wide range of topics on software development like: variables, testing, class design, identation or, even, personality. If you are serious about your development skills, this book is for you.
If you don’t believe me, read some other customers reviews at Amazon.com.
By the way, what of those books should I read next?
- Object-Oriented Software Construction by Bertrand Meyer
- Beautiful Code (Edited by Andy Oram, Greg Wilson)
- Mastering Regular Expressions by Jeffrey E. F. Friedl
