2008′s resolutions: the aftermath

Wow! It seems each year you get older time flies faster. A year ago approximately, I wrote my new year’s resolutions about my career in computer science. I have done almost what I said. I tried to be reallistic and I gave myself reachable expectations such as writing and reviewing specifications before coding or using source code versioning tools.

Nonetheless, there are goals I didn’t reach yet.

For instance I have not learnt to test software properly. Professional developers in corporations test their software. Testing is an essential key concept in the success of a project. The bigger the project, the more important testing becomes. I have been working for a few years and finally I have recognized how much important is this. Then I am going add this pending point as a high priority one on my 2009′s resolutions.

Very close to testing is bug tracking. I still did not get used to filing bugs properly. I think year 2009 should be my year of using bug tracking system. I must check out Bugzilla 3.2 because it get mayor UI improvement. It looks so great! And what about Trac? I have seen so much people using Trac, then there must be a reason I should find.

About the other resolutions, well, I did some sort of progress, enough to feel okay about it. But that is not an excuse to keep on improving my skills. Next year I will keep working harder and harder. Working on what? That is a matter for another post :P Until then, stay tunned and enjoy your Christmas holidays.
